The Kelowna RCMP Services building is designed with a sense of authenticity reflective of the distinct architectural character of the neighborhood. Influenced by the principles noted in the City of Kelowna’s Official Community Plan, it is well integrated into the existing built environment of the surroundings.
The rectilinear form of the building is specifically shaped to fit the evolving, urban fabric of Kelowna’s downtown. It optimizes key programmatic relationships that best facilitate the diverse work of the police force within a highly secure environment.
The design is envisioned as a community asset and a significant opportunity to add to the growing downtown Kelowna urban fabric. On one hand, it is a highly secure police facility with a mandate to build on the legacy of the RCMP. On the other, it is a highly visible civic building responsive to the heritage of a vibrant lakeside community. Strategies for expansion were a critical consideration in shaping the design so that future additions can be achieved efficiently, cost-effectively and without interruption to on-going operations.
